On MDF, one watchout is that it dents and damages easily, and it isn't repairable unlike wood with a bit of wood putty. If you are good about never hitting the baseboard too hard with the vacuum cleaner and if you don't have cats or dogs that ever touch their paws or claws to the wall at floor level your baseboard then MDF is OK.
