Why would you make your road uniform more dressed up than your home uniform? I always liked that Pirates road set, partially for its sheer absurdity. I mean, who wears road pinstripes but bright white homes? The late 90s Pirates, that's who. While I'm not a fan of the custom number font the 7 looks exceptionally terrible, and there's just no need for it , overall their standard home and road are up there with any team's you can name.
Their alts are kind of a mess though. In my mind, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Oakland A's can get away with wearing just about anything. The Rangers once wore this uniform. I'm using this as an excuse to post a picture of the Indians home uniform. I wish it had displayed some staying power because I love the font even though an outline with a drop shadow usually looks too busy. The road version also looked good. Don't think it was mentioned yet, but this prototype Cubs home jersey is pretty interesting.
Placket piping should never be used on pinstriped jerseys. Nothing should intersect the stripes - not even horizontal sleeve stripes. Contrasting sleeves should never be used on pinstriped jerseys. If you want contrast, wear a "vest" with colored undershirt. The solid-colored raglan style looks even worse here. It might work on a solid jersey - the '70s Braves wore something kinda-sorta a little simlar IIRC - but in general, it looks like something my Babe Ruth team wore in the early '90s.
