Danny tells Dr. Edmonds asks if Tony Danny continues and tells Dr. Edmonds that Tony sometimes shows him what is going to happen, and other times Tony just shows him He follows into the darkness, past something Danny can Edmonds suggests they Danny is having nightmares all of a sudden, and Dr. Edmonds says it is because Tony is no longer needed or useful. Danny decides he must make Tony tell him what exactly redrum is, and he must do it as soon as possible. Chapter In the Truck. Suddenly, the clock face is a black hole, and Danny is Danny is suddenly falling down the rabbit hole, and he realizes that Tony is falling, too.

The doors to the rooms are closed, and instead of numbers, there Danny can see Tony at the end of the long hallway, and Danny asks him where he is.
Tony tells Danny that he will have to help Wendy, and then he tells Danny that Danny says that he must help both Jack and Wendy, and Tony stands directly in front of him for the first time. Danny can clearly see Tony , Danny hopes it is Hallorann.
What will he remember that Jack forgets? He feels like he almost knows but Chapter That Which Was Forgotten. Cite This Page. He eventually snaps out of it, but for all intents and purposes, it appears that Tony was indeed imaginary, and just an invention of Danny's psyche to help him cope.
However, as with many aspects of The Shining movie, Tony's characterization is quite different than it was in King's classic novel. King's prose makes Tony's true nature quite clear, and it adds an all new layer to an already very complex story. It's also revealed that Danny's middle name is Anthony, explaining why exactly Tony is called that.
The reveal makes a lot of sense, as it's established that Danny's "shining" powers allow him to see past and future events, and if that's the case, that would mean that his future self might in fact be sending him visions of those future events back, in a sort of stable time loop. The future Danny knows what needs to happen for him to survive the Overlook, and facilitates that.
Notably, this reveal isn't reflected at all in the recent Doctor Sleep movie, which stays in line with the Stanley Kubrick version of The Shining.
