Gaia Online is not your typical social media website, but it is just that nonetheless, albeit targeting a niche audience with an anime-themed network. Anime, manga, video games, music, tv shows, gaia in general. Now-a-days its pretty dead. Topics sit on front pages of most forums for months with little to no discussion. Honestly makes me sad, since discussion type forums like these don't exist much anymore.
At least, not that I know of. Just reddit, but even that isn't always super discussion focused. Its so hard keeping up with items on gaia now-a-days too. There are just WAY too many. And honestly, the economy is a bit wack now-a-days for how little population there is.
Back in the day, when there were hundreds of thousands of people online, having items super expensive and rare was fun. And kept things interesting. Now that there are literally maybe a couple thousand people active at once on here, so many items and them being generally really expensive is a put off to new people. I can't imagine anyone joining and sticking around now-a-days. Eh, that's just my rant I suppose. Just how I feel every time I pop in here. I always remember the summer ones being fun.

You get gold from doing anything, from just surfing the web, posting a comment, posting on the forums There's always a lot of things to do, from getting the item you're questing for, to replying to this one gaiafag who has been bothering you all day.
However, it is poorly moderated and filled with immature idiots. Gaia Online is lucky to have their own Terms of Service than to follow another forum host's Terms of Service, because if they did, they'd be deleted years ago.

Many other members will attempt to fight trolls, but ultimately fail, as their general intelligence greatly falls below normal.
